Meet Dr. Armaiti May, DVM

As a young girl, Dr. May knew that she wanted to become a veterinarian. She was raised as a vegetarian, which shaped her values of embracing compassion for all living beings.

Veterinarian & Founder

In 2001, Dr. May graduated from the University of California, Berkeley with a Bachelor’s Degree in Bioresource Sciences. In 2005, she graduated from the University of California, Davis School of Veterinary Medicine. While studying at UC Davis, Dr. May became dismayed about some of the inhumane methods utilized for training and education. Dedicated to minimizing all animal suffering, Dr. May organized like-minded students in advocating for compassionate treatment for animals at the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine. As a veterinary professional, she continued this mission on a broader scale by founding the Veterinary Association for the Protection of Animals (VAPA) in 2015.

Dr. May began her professional career by working at a 24-hour dog and cat emergency hospital for 20 months. She gained valuable experience in critical-care situations, mastering her skills in surgery, patient stabilization, acute care, diagnostics, imaging, and determining long-term prognoses and treatment plans.

While this was valuable and rewarding work, Dr. May developed a desire to help patients before they reached the need for critical care. This inspired her to begin her pursuit in learning more about preventive care, holistic and homeopathic modalities, and pet nutrition. As the veterinary landscape began evolving to a corporate model, it became clear that Dr. May’s mission would not be in alignment with most veterinary employers. Staying true to her convictions, Dr. May started her own house call practice in 2007, serving dogs and cats in the Los Angeles area.

In 2019 and 2020, Dr. May became concerned with California’s geo-political landscape. In an effort to remain free from the medical mandates imposed by her beloved home state of California, Dr. May made the difficult decision to uproot and move to Arizona. In 2021, she became licensed to practice veterinary medicine in Arizona and bought her first ever home in Chino Valley. In 2022, she launched her house call practice in Arizona while still working part-time in Los Angeles.

While she embraced her house call practice, her services were limited by not having her own brick-and-mortar practice. In January of 2025, she opened Dr. May’s Vet Clinic in Chino Valley, Arizona.

Dr. May continues to offer house calls in the Quad Cities are of Northern Arizona, typically on Tuesdays. She continues to work in Los Angeles quarter-time while key staff members are still present in Arizona to provide some specified services under Dr. May’s direction. When available, Dr. May leases clinic space while in Los Angeles to provide specific services that are not available on a house call basis, such as dental extractions, spays, neuters, mass removals and other surgeries performed in a clinic.

Dr. May continues to learn, grow, and expand her services and general expertise. She is dedicated to remaining an independent veterinarian, enabling her to live out her mission of providing comprehensive care for your animal companions without the impropriety of corporate oversight.

It is a privilege to serve the companion animals in the Quad Cities, Arizona, and Los Angeles areas.

Dr. May is committed to continuing education beyond the requirements of the Veterinary Board. She is passionate about deepening her understanding and application of traditional veterinary medicine while staying current on the latest developments in new and innovative healing modalities. Dr. May travels from coast-to-coast and internationally to learn from the greatest pioneers in alternative veterinary medicine.
